A one-eyed rider

A one-eyed rider

It was very, very windy today. Anybody with contact lenses knows that's a problem.

At one point early in the ride, I couldn't deal with riding any further with a grain of sand in my left eye...so I stopped and attempted the no-look contact emergency cleansing.

I failed.

My contact hit the ground, which means it would be hard enough to find it with two eyes...let alone one. It's still out there hiding somewhere in the leaves and twigs.

For the next 10+ miles, I was forced to pedal with one eye. I could see zilch out of my left eye and my right eye had trouble distinguishing tree roots and leaves and rocks on its own. I held on to the handle bars for dear life as I went over every trail bounce.

Needless to say, when I finally saw the support vehicle...even if it was with only one eye...I was a pretty darn happy bicyclist!
